Thank you for the new membership. I live in Mid Michigan. My wife and I have bought a home with a dual forced air heating system. We have natural gas. The Lennox air to air heat pump operates until the ambient air is at 30 degrees. At that point the gas furnace starts and heats the home. 30 degrees seems way too low for our area of the country. Is there a way to reset the heat pump cut off point to say, 45 degrees? We have not moved into the home as we will be painting, adding carpet and other things to the home.
30 degrees isn't too low for heat pump operation. They work just fine down to zero.
The reason for setting a cut off higher is for cost reasons. What is your price for gas heat vs electric heat pump?
Chances are at 30 degrees the heat pump is still cheaper to operate.
But yes you can certainly set the cut off higher.
What's controlling the dual fuel? These days most installers use a thermostat with outdoor sensor to do it. Then you just have to get into the setup of the stat and adjust the switchover point.
Check your utilities. I looked at rates for a customer and realized that for me, gas was about 1/3 of the cost of the heat pump. So for the first time in 25 years I'm heating with gas.
Looks like the signature line of Lennox does not need to be registered, but it does not hurt, the other lines need to be registered or your manufacturers warranty stays at a base warranty
If you're registering Elite® Series or Merit® Series equipment, you may be eligible for valuable supplemental coverage under Lennox's Extended Limited Warranty program.
What is the Extended Limited Warranty Program?
For eligible Equipment, Lennox’s Extended Limited Warranty Program supplements the Limited Warranty by extending the Warranty Period from five (5) to ten (10) years, subject to the terms and conditions of the Extended Limited Warranty. The Extended Limited Warranty is only available for Equipment used in a Residential Application, and only covers the original owner(s) of the premises (at the time of installation) where the Equipment is originally installed.
Is my Equipment Eligible for the Extended Limited Warranty?
Dave Lennox Signature® Collection Equipment comes with a ten-year Limited Warranty when used for a Residential Application. Therefore, registration is not required. However, if you register your Equipment, we can keep you up to date on product information and offers

The HEAT PUMP ECONOMIC BALANCE POINT is probably ~ 40'F

It does have an outdoor sensor. There are tabs on the touch screen of the thermostat. I have tried to cipher them so to set the cutoff higher and haven't had any luck. It is the Lennox Elite system. Thank you for the response.
Natural gas is way cheaper than the heat pump. And up here in Michigan an air to air makes no sense to me. I noticed it was operating at 31 degrees this afternoon. I haven't received the gas/electric bill(same company) yet and am bracing for it. Is there a way to disable the heat pump through the smart thermostat? Thank you for responding.
A Lennox Elite system thermostat. How do I reset the cutoff for the Heat Pump to say 50 degrees? Natural gas is way cheaper than an air to air hat pump.
The manuals should have been left by the installing contractor. If they can’t be found, check online.

Four factors need to be reviewed to determine the ECONOMIC BALANCE POINT.
1. AVERAGE Coefficient of Performance ( C.O.P.)
______ above a Selected cutoff point
_____ as provided in the EXTENDED PERFORMANCE RATINGS
_____ and weighted to the local TEMPERATURE BIN DATA
2. Furnace AFUE
3. Local Electricity Rate
4. Local Natural Gas or LP Gas Rate
Your Application
1. Heat Pump Performance
______ Apparently, Lennox provides a noticablyreduced C.O.P. than many other manufacturers
2. High AFUE
3. Relatively high electricity rate for Michigan ( > $0.136/ kw-hour)
____ ____________________ ~ 11th highest in U.S. __?
4. Low NG rate ( <$0.80 / Therm )
All factors favor the use of furnace for Jellisam.
