    Bacnet routing problem

    Hi all,

I have a large issue concerning the bacnet communication of an Alerton VLC, which I think has its roots on the Alerton's router BCM-ETH that I used.

First, I show a picture of the bacnet explorer how it currently is:

    Name: bacnetwork.PNG

Size: 13.0 KB

I am trying to read the VLCs whose instances are 2050 and 2051, listed on network 20. They are routed by the BCM-ETH whose instance is 200, and is on network 10. But when I try to read the objects of the VLCs (using the python library BAC0), sometimes i get the warning:

"WARNING | 10.12.32.90 Rejected message to network (reason : Other Error)"

10.12.32.90 is the IP of device 10000, which is an Alerton's VLX "global controller".

One thing I noticed, looking at the image, is that the router of the VLCs that i'm trying to read is the only one that is outside the local network, and doesn't have its own IP.

Sorry if my question ended up confusing, i'm a new user of BACNET and Alerton's controllers, but my main problem is how to stop device 10000 from rejecting messages when I try to read devices 2050 and 2051, as it is not even their router.

10.12.32.90 is the router connecting your local network and network 10.

You could try to capture packet by wireshark, the packet send out by BAC0 may have problem

    Thanks for the response,

do you know how can I disconnect 10.12.32.90 from the network 10?

Even better, how can I put device 200 on my local network, instead of 10.

I could use wireshark, but I'm currently programming on an application in Python, so the packet would need to be captured by a Python library (like BAC0)

Your local network is BACnet ip. but BCM-ETH only support Ethernet and ms/tp.
so if you disconnect 10.12.32.90 from network 10. you could not access network 10.

Hum I did not know that,

But, the device 10 for example, listed on the local network, is a BCM-ETH. Why I would not be able to do the same with device 200?

    Sorry i make a mistake.
BCM-ETH could be configured as router for BACnet IP.

So your idea should work, but i am not familiar of alerton, i don't know how to configure the BCM-ETH.

Here is an old thread that may help:

If anyone else happen to read this thread and wish to help me: one detail that I discovered today is that the rejection is happening because the signal is being routed trough device 10000/ip 10.12.32.90. I have tried to read other VLCs which are routed through 10.12.32.10, and no message is ever rejected. Consequently, my problem now is not so much to stop device 10000 from rejecting the messages, but more specifically to route the VLCs 2050 and 2051 through another router.

The BCM-ETH can be configured using hyperterminal and null modem cable. Can you share a network diagram of how all these devices are connected? That would probably help to get a better picture.

Certainly. Here is how I've installed the new devices:

The device 10000, which is rejecting the messages, was not installed by me, it was already used for the control in another room. Here is a picture of his board:
