Boots full of snow and going to customers houses ??
How do u guys deal with this?
If u put booties on it will all go thru and or then the work area is all wet...

I keep a pair of overshoes just for this.
I'm not young enough, to know everything...

I used to carry a pair of slippers in my tool backpack when it got really bad.
Even shopping bags for the real crap holes I wouldn't remove the boots at. I don't know how some people live the way they do.

If I was going into a carpeted home, I would leave my boots at the front door and go in just in my socks, socks I wear are thicker than my boots on those days we are talking about. Other than attics and a few gross and really nasty homes/rentals I would go back and grab my boots knock off as much as I could of the snow and go to work. Most of the time I carried a decent drop cloth that I kept clean and would lay out based on the circumstances, too. Thus if an attic I could lay that down below the access to catch errant insulation and also I would take my boots on and off on that if I was to track through a home.
After my first few residential heating and cooling seasons, I got lazy and despised laces. Setting there tying them up and loosening them home after home...gun to my head. So I found, for me, that I really enjoy pull on boots. I hear some people have weak ankles and need that extra support, for me, I like I can slip them right off and on.
I had a few guys I worked with that had pull over boots, "Dunlops" we call them. They seemed to work for them.

I’m not in residential anymore, but when I was I kept a pair of muck boots in my van. Also if the snow wasn’t terribly deep I would wear boot covers when I’m outside not inside (same applies for dealing with mud). Basically I’m doing everything possible to keep snow/mud out of my treads. As long as you can keep it out of the treads it is much easier to keep your boots clean hence the house clean. If you wanted to be especially anal about it you could wear one pair of boot covers outside and keep another pair by the front door of the house that you change into to wear inside. Most of the time I would actually just put on a pair of boot covers and wear them continuously inside and outside (even when I was also wearing my muck boots). Once the covers are on it keeps the crap out of the treads and boot covers are really easy to wipe off on a doormat. Once you get mud in your treads or dog crap you may spend 30 minutes cleaning it out

Tidy Trax are the answer, Been using them for years, knock off heavy snow, step into tidy trax and you are good to go...keeping in mind following notes:
The snow melts when in the home turning into a puddle of muddy water, my remedy is folding a blue paper towel in the boot cover before stepping into it to absorb the water.
Failure to do above mentioned trick will allow water to be thrown out of your boot covers when going up or down stairs or when you kneel on your knees, the water will drain out the front of the cover.

I assume putting on the rubber boot covers for inside would probably leak out the water ?
-
we use these, i prefer the old school zip up rubber version. just slip them on in the truck, kick'm off at the front door. customers love them. the carbide studs are a bonus on ice

I just take off my boots and if it's a dank old leaky stone basement I'll go back and get them and put them on when I get down there. I hate the stupid boot covers and I'd rather take my chances stepping on a stray Lego than having the deal with the damn things.

You are correct! However out in the real world you are free to do what you like and take that risk of a life changing foot injury cleaning a furnace.

I don’t know what parts of the country you all are in but there’s absolutely no way I’m taking my boots off and going into a customers house with my socks...no way

Iguess you have never worked for Asian folks.

I honestly hate boot covers, and I'm not flexible enough to be putting those things on and taking them off a million times. Just get some romeos and take them off. Keep an extra pair of socks if you're worried about the customer's gross floor.

Shoe bee armadillo water proof boot covers. I have an outdoor and indoor pair in wet or snowy weather.

Well they try and pull that crap with me about taking my shoes off and I basically just tell them that they can either let me in or find someone else. Luckily I’m not in residential anymore. Needless to say I fit in better in a commercial environment I have nothing but respect for all the techs here that do really good residential customer service. My hats off to ya!

It takes all my willpower not to punch them in the face when they hand me a pair of sandals. I will gladly take off my boots but even if your size 5 sandals would fit I'm not wearing them.

Just tell them you will give them a flat rate price for a maintenance if you can leave your boots on. If you have to take them on and off it is time and material and you have lots of laces to tie and untie and a bad memory so you will have to keep going out to your van for more tools....

It is part of their culture. I will respect THEIR home, just as i would respect YOUR home. Yes, like you, I just take my shoes off and get it done. Bravado does not come into play. I loose nothing by respecting another human being and their home, period.

I'm of the same mindset.
Have had quite a few Indians with the same thing. I will say for some reason when I did the socks/sandal thing it was easier to get paid.
