Heatilator actually tested those and found no crazing of the glass. Follow up with more SprayWay for a streak-free cleaning. Small cans for a buck at the big Home Cheapo. As BALloyd said, just don't wait too long. Do your initial burn-in for about 10-20hrs. then clean it. Then at least annually depending upon use.
Much more thorough explanation from our hearth pro.

Give it 20-40 min. then re-test.

ANSI Z21.88 calls for 25ppm AF with half burner covered with embers. They do this under ideal conditions with the unit really cooked in and going for as long as possible--typically hours or days straight so the themosyphon has stabilized.

If you move your probe tip around you will probably see difference in numbers. Also, if your tip is near an elbow you'll get turbulence esp. the inside of the curve with stagnation and eddies. There, you want to test towards the outside of the curve in that better mixed turbulent stream to get a more representative sample. Don't be afraid to attach an extension tube to reach back in there a little.

You can also have fun trying to read the draft on the intake concentric space.
