Energy savings going from 96% 2-stage furnace to 98% carrier infinity greenspeed

Am I correct in thinking that there is no additional energy savings in going to a furnace that modulates the gas intake (like the Carrier 98 greenspeed) beyond the difference in efficiency. If a 2-stage furnace is 96% and the variable gas inlet is 97%, I don't think I would see much less gas usage.

I realize that there should be less heat swings and increased comfort with a variable gas furnace.

    Thanks,

Only savings you could see. Is if the mod furnace increases comfort enough that you set your thermostat 2 degrees lower, than you did with the 2 stage 96%.
