    factory supplied drain traps?

I have a service company for one of the furnaces in our local library. The condensate line was damaged during a remodel and the supplied trap from Lenox that was mounted to the side of the furnace was destroyed. (below is the type originally installed).

The service company wants to just use standard pvc fittings to make the trap. They assured me that it makes no difference and in fact theres will be better quality (and cheaper!).

Is it acceptable to fashion a trap out of fittings instead of using the factory supplied trap?

The service company stands behind there work... just like you do.

If the new p-trap is configured like the Lenox installation instructions show in regards to length, the addition of a vent etc... does it matter what material is used? Is there something special about the design of those traps?

Yes it was designed that way and the UL sticker was assigned to that design. No once its changed Lenox is no longer responsible it something goes wrong and people get hurt.

Make them buy the factory part and keep it original!

PVC fittings do the same functional thing but once you modify any part of the original furnace it's no longer certified. The kits are cheap to just buy from Lennox do it properly and cover your ass.

Unless It was under warranty, why would Lennox need to authorize it? How could a pvc trap make something go wrong?

Why do people come here to ask a question for which they already have the answer they want?

Could be fine. May not be.
    This is a government building?
