Ok. On the new split systems I can see how a hack would mistake the muffler as a filter.

I've done that myself "once" after a compressor change out. Anyways, i was back there fixing a restriction a few months later. Because with the dryer in backwards it doesn't filter squat. Just bypasses around the core.

The arrow Is supposed to point the correct way To the compressor - which it through the evaporator and the suction line. The one pictured here points the wrong way to the compressor. <g>

the arrow indicate the refrigerant flow, in this case from the condenser to the air handler.

I had a guy working for me who generally put driers in the discharge line. When eventually asked he told me it was only because the discharge lines were easier to get to.

There’s always the possibility the installer switched the sticker around to prank their coworker and didn’t switch it back. I did that once on the first solo ac I was sent on, little 1-1/2 ton unit, my boss told me he was going to look at it afterwards so I thought I’d pull a little prank on him, he never did end up looking at it...

My big question is..... which way do you point the arrows on a bi flow filter dryer?
You don't squat with your spurs on.
And you NEVER put the torches away before pressure testing.

That's easy, they point with the pipe if they are open and across the pipe if it is closed.

Oh wait, that a valve handle.

A few of old York heat pump had regular LL driers on the discharge lines just before reversing valve. I also seen some old carrier units with muffler on discharge lines that was just empty drier shell. I once removed a rusty muffler off an old round carrier unit and didn't notice change in compressor noise.
