Discussion on closing registers to save money - Linked

Something you guys might enjoy reading about closing registers.

I recently re-read this post by Allison Bailes on the Energy Vanguard site. His blog always presents informative and well reasoned information. This one explains why closing registers hurts rather than helps equipment and energy costs.
It also comments on "smart" registers controlled by an app. The maker claims it will save energy. The blog is not in agreement.
But the best part is the comments which take up 75% of the space. Some argue with him about his thinking and conclusions. His responses sometimes made me laugh out loud.

Let them close them. We will be back for low air flow issues and bad blower motors

Unless they are cool customers then I'll tell them

A lot of people talk about closing registers then closing the door to the room that is unused. This goes back to the energy crunch in the 80's when either utilities or government calmed doing so would save money.

People don't understand the airflow issue. As far as they know is yo close 1 register and the air just goes out the other ones which is true to a point. What I explain to them is that the exterior walls have insulation in them so heat moves slower through the walls. Interior walls have no insulation so the heat moves very rapidly through the walls. The colder that room gets the more heat they loose through the interior walls. That one they usually understand cause they can feel how cold it is in the room and know a little about insulation.
