    Locking Refrigerant Caps

So the little thieves in my area have wised up and got their hands on keys for the locking valve caps. Primarily in this area everyone uses the JB caps or the Novent caps. My client this AM had them installed already, but on his cameras caught the little shits go up to his unit and remove them! They then proceeded to fill a plastic bag and stumbled off with it. Never seen it on video before, and couldn't believe they had a damn key!

A good example of a codes failure of attempting to legislate away substance abuse. Anyone can buy a key online

It has certainly curtailed the misuse. I am surprised you feel it was supposed to stop it 100%.

Yeah, you put a cheap lock on something and then tell kids not to mess with it, what do you think they are going to do? Especially if you make the locks a bright pink color. Good idea there government!

My misinterpreted statement was meant to address the access of keys. They were only to be sold to licensed techs.

Update! And it's bad news. My client was able to identify the boys from his video and contacted their parents. They are both 16 years old. Their parents had stated they would address the issue. But unfortunately one of the two young men involved in this particular incident was just found dead this morning at a neighbors house a few doors down. My client just called me to say the boy was found at about 6am, and he was on the side of the house where the units are located. So he and I are guessing what happened. Damn shame and first time I've been this close to a situation like this. Man this escalated from a service call to a funeral quick.

Damn ! Gone bad just got worse. I sure hope your customer can provide evidence that he had protective caps on. Especially if it's required by local code.
    Litigation sure to follow.
Very sad for that boy to have ended his life in such a foolish way.

MY prayers go to a family I don't even know. We can all hope something positive can come out of this tragedy.

    Likely true, unfortunately.
