    Return Lines

I am having all my duct work replaced because it was never done correctly when the house was first built in 1991. The house is 2,300 square feet and only has one return( 18 by 30) in the middle of my house. Of all the quotes I received all of them recommend I add return vents to my 4 bedrooms. I have two questions. First, should the return vent be the same size as the supply line? Two, in relationship to the supply vent, where should the return vent be located?

Generally the return duct should be larger than the supply.

Placement is often determined by the room size and the position of the supply register and it throw design.
