No Fred. Cavitation is actually low pressure steam. Air in the pump will sound somewhat the same but the difference in energy between air injected and the formation of low pressure steam bubbles is monumental. A text book I bought years back stated that 70 F water when cavitated (turned into steam) expands 54,000 times. That takes a lot of energy but the real damage is done when the bubble collapses.
