    Security BSides confrences, anyone going?

Is anyone here going to Security BSides conferences? I went to one last year and I think it would be a real eye opener to people in our industry to how sheltered we are in the HVAC world.

I'll be going to Greenville SC and possibly Atlanta . I haven't decided on Asheville or Charleston instead of Atlanta yet, I'm thinking Atlanta is going to be bigger.

Never heard of it, looks interesting. Wouldn't mind checking it out but closest ones not that close.

    Worth a flight?

A lot of the web pages are not updated yet for 2020, I only found out about my area from a lock pick village announcement. I see there is one in Boston.

On the list on the wiki or flipping thru the calendar? Closest I saw was CT, VA or DC on the list. Driving down there is a nightmare, would prob just fly. If I'm going to that hassle...why not go another hour to somewhere the weather is nicer.

Just search bsides and your city name, they are everywhere. They seem to be a much more friendly arm of the same community that does black hat but more bent towards education. I used to have an interactive map but I can't find it right now, but if there is five in my area there's more in New England.

I've found them to be a fun crowd to be a part of, some really nice people that want to get the infosec word out. Augusta get together had a talk by Jake Williams that was pretty good, then months later I learn this from Darknet Diaries (must listen) and realize it's the same guy. BSides puts anyone in contact with some really knowledgeable people.

There are side attractions like Fox Pick and the car hacking village (canbus) but the central message is creating awareness of what's going on on the internet and what do do about it. We are a part of this world like it or not.

I'll have to check it out. Disappointing all the announcements seems to be on tweaters. Don't have any desire to deal with them, FB, etc.

Least here is keep an eye on the socnets or good luck. There is zero chance I'm signing up to get notification, so its a manual affair.

Even there the local chapter redirects to a page that hasn't been updated since 2017... Pretty sad for a techie group.
