    Air Handler

I am in the process of making a 3/4 inch plywood platform where my drip pan will sit on. This platform will be about 6 feet off of the attic floor. My air handler will then be suspended right above the pan. My question is, how much space should I have from the bottom of the drip pan to the bottom of the air handler? I have seem pictures of some air handlers with 2 by 4's supporting the air handler resting right on the drip pan. I definitely don't want to do that.
