    We were taught that after draining out ALL of the water we then removed the fan belts and we added a can of "water pump lubricant/antifreeze".

    I would say check the manufactures instruction, but I will go out on a limb and say it should be off. Maybe engineer can put into his pm to bump it once a week or so, if he is worried about it.
