Hey, no spoilers please. If someone wants to know about events in the storyline, he/she needs to
look them up. A lot of people have not seen this show. This thread needs to be as much for them as
for those who have seen it.

    I haven't seen Season 4 yet either, but I hear it's good.

    Oh, sorry...

It is just assumed... at least for me...

The basic format of SciFi on TV will follow some basics...

Need to find the time to check out season 4...
Saw an add for it on SciFi channel a while back...
Just do not get around to watching Amazon Prime TV lately...

I'm about 3 or 4 episodes into season 4. So far, I like it. The main plot has shifted from the protomolecule itself to what they believe may be the (extinct) creators of the protomolecule. Most of the story is taking place on a planet in a system beyond the gate that was opened in season 3. All characters have returned, including "ghost" Miller. I believe the writing is as good as ever. I plan to watch all of season 4, and any other that comes.

    Spoiler alert...

Something significant happens to the character... along the way... which is significant to the character...

The Expance is one of those shows, IMO, that deals in too much reality... with how folks react to situations...
Rather than the Hollywood 'make believe' world (Andy of Mayberry, etc)...

The show will probably not go far... hope so though!

I was referring to the fact that even though you a produced a statement with almost zero substance, you still could not resist the urge to post it.

Well... did I get you interested, enough to make time to watch it...

Like Nuclrchiller... now I have enough forward information... to find the time to start in on season 4...

I hope Amazon or someone picks it up... I prefer that outside the box kind of SciFi stuff... as opposed to the B grade stuff we usually get.

    OTOH...
Warehouse 13 was fun... well the first few seasons...

Admit I haven't checked out your links space but just curious... have you read the books? I love science fiction & "The Expanse" series is second only in my mind right up there with the Dune series authored by Frank Herbert, went downhill when his son hired ghost writers to flesh out Franks outlines & notes after his father died. But I enjoyed those later books also.

Not sure if you know this space but maybe others don't. Belters have 'evolved' almost into another species. Due to being born in zero g, life long suffering from lack of adequate air water & food, radiation exposure in space, they suffer lots of medical, developmental & genetic issues. They became very tall with brittle bones almost like the Navi in Avatar. Being extremely tall & skinny they are easily identified from 'wellers', humans raised in a gravity well. Not only do Belters have their own dialect they developed their own sign language as a result of working in space in crappy space suits with no comms, instead communicating by sign language.

The TV adaption has been fairly true to the books but lots have been left out. You can probably guess what Marcos is doing in Season 4's cliff hanger. Seventh book, "Persepolis Rising" picks up 30 years after... ummmmm... what happened & Roci's crew is looking forward to retirement but Holden is dragged back into the fray.

Haven't read 8th book yet, " Tiamat's Wrath". Gotta get it now.

What I loved about the series & is left out of the TV show is how scientifically accurate they are. If you haven't read the books space you MUST read them. The authors were constantly consulting with noted scientists to the point they gave them advanced transcripts for suggestions & they rewrote major parts to make it scientifically believable.

For example, the Martian corvette class Roci crew chairs. TV alluded to the drug cocktail to endure hard g maneuvers but they weren't strapped in. Instead the 3 axis gimbaled chairs expanded to encase their bodies sorta like fractional HP motors encased in foam packs inside the box. Their eyes, nose & mouth were left open to see & the chair had controls at finger tips for exposed hands.

The Expanse TV series is just the beginning. The Expanse is similar to Europe expanding into the New World. What happened to Earth is forcing humanity to leave our solar system & is driving humanity's "Expanse" through the Ring the proto-molecule built into new unknown galaxies. The story line dramatically changes in the 7th book.

    Spoiler Alert!!!!!

The TV show didn't explain that, (don't quote me, I forget exact number), about 1 in seven ships that go through the Ring are never seen nor heard from again.
Begs the question, is the civilization that exterminated the engineers of the proto-molecule still out there?

BDMan, I haven't read a novel in years, but you have convinced me.

I'm not sure where to start. Amazon's selection is pretty limited.

There are some novellas that precede Leviathan Wakes.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ex...s_and_novellas

    Should I read them first?

Definitely start with "Leviathan Wakes". If it picques your interest which I'm sure it will, then go back to read the short stories & novellas as they flesh out character development & story background. Been a while but if memory serves the short stores were included as bonus material with Amazon/Kendal downloads & the rest I was able to find for free on the interwebs.

Don't get me wrong the TV series is pretty good. But many, many details are eliminated in the interest of time constraints. The battle station chairs that envelope you to exert pressure to prevent blood from draining from your brain during high g burns. No Star Trek ray guns instead mini-gun like PDC canons or electromagnetic rail guns. The 'Epstein Drive' patterned after NASA research such as this...

supplying sufficient thrust to create 1/3 g for prolonged travel or at a high fuel consumption higher g sufficient to kill you. They talk about 'flip & burn' meaning first half of travel distance accelerating at 1/g, which belters can tolerate & midway flipping backwards & deaccelerating at 1/3 g or using the Oberth maneuver, gravity assist which we use for today's space probe missions to save fuel.

The proto-molecule which was sent to Earth millions of years ago but was captured by Saturn's gravity & was waylaid on one of Saturn's small moons for millions of years. Proto-molecule was designed to consume early primitive life forms not advanced life such as humans. The proto-molecule is a brilliant story antagonist building a Superman/Borg character which turns out was never meant to commandeer intelligent life. Proto-molecule was never engineered for conquest, simply a genetic machine engineered for one purpose, build & operate the Ring.

The TV special effects of the proto-molecule are pretty good but the first battle with Bobby pales in comparison with the books. The multiple proto-molecule encounters with humans that did not grasp the purpose of the proto-molecule are absolutely riveting. Proto-molecule human form is badazz.

    Apologies for the long post.

BTW: I blame you space for my spending $12 for "Tiamat's Wrath" on Amazon Kendal last night as I'm still wading through the 'Mars' Trilogies. (Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson)
