Whirlpool seems to be the best of the breed for cost vs reliability. I keep an eye on the market as I have a 20 year old Amana bottom freezer, single upper door, no ice maker... Icemakers are a big source of trouble. Still works great, but it is getting old... Like me. Sad that Amana got Borged by Whirlpool.

I even have an Amana microwave from '96 that just keeps on going. Spider under the glass shelf broke (and is unobtainium,) so we just use it without. Gets a workout every day... Cannot buy anything really quality anymore in the way of appliances I'm afeered.

Will say I am a fan of the LG frontloader laundry. Have ones going on 10 years with not a problem. Bought a pair for the Casino to clean wiping rags two years ago. These get a workout! So far have only had to replace the tub seal.
A dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than is a riot.

The folks at Lowes and at HD say Whirlpool are good...

Not sure how to explain this... here goes:
Products tend to go through stages where quality goes down, then comes back up...
Seems lately with appliances... folks are more interested in how it looks, than how it performs long term...
And the manufacturers provided folks with good looks, but lousy performance.

IMO... this is about to change...
Folks are complaining about lousy performance...

MeThinks the manufacturers may well bring out better quality...
Along with more things being built in America, as opposed to being 'Chinese made'

Reminds me of the old thing about 'made in Japan' back when I was a kid...
    Meant it was junk... LOL

We have a Kitchenaid side by side bottom freezer water inside. Have had for five years, no problems.
We also have Frigidaire same style. This our second one. First one would not cool down. Tech came out twice. I told them I was leaving for a couple of months and couldn't trust this one. They replaced with little prompting.
Have this one about 18 months.

My understa ding is kitchenaid and Whirlpool are both the same company now

Yeah, Whirlpool bought KitchenAid years back...
Shame, as KitchenAid used to be a high quality brand at an affordable price...

I read somewhere that even SubZero's are not that reliable anymore...
    SAD thing indeed!
