    Midea or carrier

    Hi guys first time post we installed a midea 5ton mini split in April .system ran good until the weather got cold .now system is freezing at night when temperature drops.I notice condenser fan are running at full speed I thought they would slow down for low ambient control .suction pressure 98 sh 0 slt 30 r-410 model#dlclrah58aak s#v182346542 going back Monday to Remove charge and recharge with factory charge thanks for any help or advice

    Sounds like the place to start. 98 suction on a freezing night is high.

    I don't know for sure .I call midea tec support and they couldn't help me. because they said it was a carrier unit .so I called are carrier rep and they said it was a midea unit and they could help me .?

    Not sure of this unit, but midea makes Carrier and Lennox ductless units, if not others.

    Thanks I will try calling Lennox on Monday I think there's a way to set up the low ambient from the condenser but I can't find any manuels on it

    This is a Midea heat pump, the suction would be higher in heat mode, and the coil will freeze and defrost.

    Thank you for your reply. I guess I forgot to mention we only run unit in cooling mode.it is a kitchen so it's the evaporator that's freezing on cold nights

    Sounds like you DON'T have a low ambient control.

    Is this a heat pump?
    Commercial Kitchen?

    The low end Daikins have a jumper on the board that you have to cut to enable low ambient operation..... so you need to contact whoever the unit is branded to, or midea down in Florida, and ask them how to enable low ambient operation on your particular model.
