York YLAA0100 plate heat exchanger

Has anyone experienced failures of the plate type heat exchangers in York YLAA 100 ton chillers with under 5 years of service? I have a new customer with multiple chillers that have had these heat exchangers develop leaks allowing freon into the chilled water side.

Seen it a few times but I’m the heat recovery side. Never saw the evaporator heat exchanger fail.

Yes. Usually on variable flow systems. TXV or EEV? There has been some valve replacements to correct issue. New valves are sporlan.

There are some flow switch changes as well. If you have the Danfoss EEVs there is a software upgrade. There is also a processor software upgrade. If your unit was affected, it should have been upgraded by the local office for free (upgraded txvs are not included).

if your unit isn’t covered, then I would recommend looking into the Sporlan EEV upgrade and having your flow issues investigated.

They had software and EXV controller issues with a large run of units....hundreds. Your serial number should have been included in the service repair bulletin, and corrected under warranty.

thanks for that information. Is there a place online I can run this serial number to see if this unit is in the group with software and EXV controller issues?
