Hope he makes a more mainstream truck. To flashy and futuristic for me. Hell....the f-150s platinum tailgate is to flashy for me.

I'm thinking the Big Boy's (less Harley) are waiting until solid state battery's exist in the wild in mass quantities before they jump in.
(Fingers crossed that's only a few years from now).

So they'll sell exactly 146,000 units. Ford sells between 800k and 900k pick up trucks annually.

Tesla hasn't sold ANY trucks yet so it's too early to say what the final build numbers will be.

With a $100 fully refundable deposit likely there will be a high dropout rate.
Also the number of deposits grew to 200k as of Sunday (3 days after launch).
Also this build will be a two year process so divide between two.

Not a huge number but a substantial start that will likely grow as the models become produced.
Lastly bear in mind that Tesla's ultimate goal is not to dominate the industry but rather to change the industry.

Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

I see Ford has challenged him to a fair matchup instead of a 2wd stx.

It's quite steep, guessing 10% or so.

The future looks bright for EV cars but what about trucks?
Will they be up to the task of hauling the load?

I’m thinking that the Cybertruck will need a new/energy density increase to be possible.
At least for the 500 mile version.
Perhaps that’s why the 250 version will be released first.
This will give them more time to work on the batteries that will make it possible to double the range.

Tesla pickup truck is not as good as other trucks in its price range:

Shortsighted &/or irresponsible journalism in my opinion.

On a purchase of this magnitude, TOTAL not Initial cost of ownership needs to be compared.

Unless the truck doesn't get used (accumulate significant miles), then the difference between TOTAL cost of ownership will be realized every fill up (using present SoCal gas price of $4/gal).

I'm not an accountant put let's say you spend $20k more for an EV over an equivalent ICE.
Let's use 20 years of ownership (my present truck is going on 18 years old as I've suplimented it with company provided service trucks & motorcycles).
In just one fill up/month the initial cost delta has been offseted. As an additional EV savings, minimal maintenance is required $$$$.

For some, the choice to go EV now is more about Eco-nomics (Ecology) but when the next phase of battery's come out thus dropping the Initial cost, Economics will drive the market.
For me it's a mixture of Eco & Economics as I expect the TOTAL cost of ownership on my Zero (brand) motorcycle to be ZERO ($$) (compared to the TOTAL cost of ownership of a comparable ICE vehicle over the same useage conditions).

    That's true. Good point.

I recently posted a link in another thread about a police department in Indiana that is switching to Tesla 3's because they estimated they will save $20K per car per lifetime.

But then you also have to consider the decreased efficiency that results when the vehicle is used for hauling heavy loads -- which is the main reason for buying a heavy duty truck.

For example, in your video in post #33, there was a 66% decrease in range when the Model X pulled a trailer (from 325 miles to 110 miles).

Yeah, for the unforeseen future ICE and Hydrogen will have their place.
More Hybrids for ICE & Hydrogen where it makes sense (BIG, not small vehicles).
But how many trucks are being utilized to their greatest potential?
A high percentage of truck owners truck needs could be fulfilled via EV & if ICE is only occasionally required U-Haul, Home Depot, or??? will rent what you need.

Too bad you can't just jettisoned the depleted battery's like Rocket Lab does

But I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I also wonder how the electric drive train would hold up to a construction site or any kind of off road driving, where trucks are put to there extremes. Driving on flat roads is one thing, driving on uneven, unstable ground is another. What about hauling uphill? Probably not very practical hauling in the Smokey or Rocky Mountains.

Maybe a better Tesla release would have been a service van. The majority of time, service vans are only driven locally.

Same here as I've had trucks (& motorcycles) in one form or anougher for all my motor vehicle history.
But in my case the truck sits out on the side yard with a cover & occasional battery boost.
My motorcycle(s) are my prime method of transportation.

Tesla's got a bunch of talent (glass aside) to make it happen, but only time will tell for sure.
I can't wait to see it take on the Rubicon Trail (tho the trucks quite long & wide making for a difficult experience).

The Tesla ATV might be the better vehicle for this.

Not to discount your point, Tesla customers have been clammering for a pickup for quite sometime. Delivery/service vans not so much.
