Intermittent pilot ignition on Carrier 58gs

    Hi all,

I have a Carrier 58gs100. The pilot assembly has been recently replaced due to occasional main burner dropout.

Replacing the pilot assembly fixed that issue, but ignition of the pilot is not consistent. When the thermostat calls for heat, I see consistent sparking, but sometimes the pilot does not ignite. A few recent tests of blowing gently on it does seem to help it ignite, indicating maybe the gas pressure is too high? But, I don't see any way that could be adjusted. The old pilot assembly never had any issues igniting.

Any advice on why it might be failing would be helpful, since these intermittent problems are the toughest to describe to a repairman. Thanks!

I just read the manual on the gas valve and found the pilot adjustment screw. I'll explain the situation to a technician, but if someone familiar with this system has other suggestions, they would be appreciated.
