    Wiring help with a freezer

Here is the wiring diagram from a Kenmore upright freezer. The temp control is defective but it’s obsolete. It appears that two sets of contacts aren’t necessary. Can I just get a universal freezer control and connect the red and blue wires together on one terminal? Thanks in advance.

Do those contacts actually always close together? Because it doesn't make sense to me.

I'm tired of these mediocre "semi flammable" refrigerants. If we're going to do it let's do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

The amp load of the whole thing won’t exceed 5A so probably any control would work. I don’t know for a fact that the contacts close and open together. Black-to-red is only open in the off position. Black-to-blue never closes and that’s the problem. I jumped the black and blue and the freezer runs which raises the question “what does the red wire do?” I can’t really see a reason for it except to notify the “electronic module” that cooling is being called for. Could it have something to do with the built-in temp alarm?

Use a SPST control to energize a DPDT relay. Not sure why there are 3 power sources going into the module.
