    Trane XV18 problem

Any advice would be welcome before I start off on the wrong track....

On startup the refrigerant pressure drops to 40 psi and then system switches off. There is a slight rattle in the compressor just before it stops. Thermostat shows error code 161.01 which is not in the error code list we have.

We are thinking that maybe there is a blockage in the refrigerant line. Already swapped the expansion valve in the air handler with no effect. I uploaded a video:

    What do you guys think?

ERR161.01 is an EEV gas temp sensor error. Is this a heat pump or Cooling only unit? Are you having this issue in heating mode or cooling mode?

So cooling only unit, with an ERR161.01, your gas temp sensor on the air handler is not reading correctly which is causing the EEV to close. OHM out the sensor and see what it is reading. Run fan only without compressor and compare your resistance reading to return air temp. Should obviously be the same.

If the stat is showing an alert code then the CDA on the air handler should be showing one also.

I would try to manually open the EEV and see what happens, You can also see what position the EEV is in through the CDA. I would walk through the monitor menu to see what it is reporting.

Check the sensor at air handler.
