Greyhound Racing going going gone in just a few years. What a Shame

Once one of America’s favorite pastimes, greyhound racing eats dust thanks to liberals and animal rights activists groups. I’ve been to the Greyhound race track in Birmingham, Ala. a few years ago. Sad to see it go. Geez. Thank you, thank you very much

    https://www.heraldmailmedia.com/news...63e453893.html

“Now, greyhound racing remains legal in 10 states but takes place in only six. West Virginia has two dog tracks, while Alabama, Iowa and Texas have asingle track each, and state-facilitated subsidies in Iowa are set to expire byJan. 1, 2022.

While tracks remain active in Florida, voters passed a constitutional amendment last November to phase out commercial greyhound racing by 2021. And the West Memphis casino and Arkansas Greyhound Kennel Association agreed to phase out racing by 2023.

“With the Florida vote, and with the Arkansas decision, it’s now clear that greyhound racing is going to completely end in the United States,” said Carey Theil, executive director of GREY2K USA, an Arlington, Massachusetts-based advocacy organization that’s led efforts across the country to close down the industry.

Over more than a decade, animal welfare groups have framed greyhound racing as a dying industry propped up by state subsidies, and claimed animal mistreatment, including the lack of homes available to an over population of dogs after their racing careers.

But industry supporters argue that the dogs are cared for; bad actors are thrown out by the National Greyhound Association, the standards-setting body;and allegations of abuse are investigated by local authorities.

Much of the debate hinges on how people feel about animals, according to Gwyneth Anne Thayer, author of “Going to the Dogs: Greyhound Racing, Animal Activism, and American Popular Culture.” Rural farm culture often takes a more utilitarian view of animals. While many Americans think of dogs only as pets, the industry considers them working animals.
“I think people in cities and urban areas are thinking about their vegan lunch,” Thayer said. “It’s just a very different mindset. They’re just in avery different world.”
"I could have ended the war in a month. I could have made North Vietnam look like a mud puddle."

"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution."

I'm with ya Glenn. I remember going to greyhound races as a kid and I thought it was great. Sadly the track near me closed almost 20 years ago.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. The dogs love to run. They seem to be having a great time doing it. Their lives can't be much worse than other dogs who don't get to chase mechanical rabbits around in a circle.

And how is it that horse racing is so much more accepted in this world? At least the dogs don't have someone sitting on them who's whipping them with a leather strap as they run.

    I don't get it.

It may be what happens to the dogs after their racing days are over that is the biggest concern.

Fender you should search duckduck.com for adopt a Greyhound. In most cities in the US they have organizations set up for adopting Greyhounds.

They have very gentle and not aggressive at all. Most are being adopted after they are no longer wanted for racing. Yeah. Thank you, thank you very much

I’ve been a few times and it’s pretty much a casino. Seedy. Dumb dumbs wasting their money. I only wasted two bucks a race.

    Don't protect a 7yr old boy from getting turned into a girl..by it's mother
Don't want to protect the border
Don't want to protect elections from fraud.
    Don't protect parental rights.

They want to protect a dog from racing other dogs because the dog likes to run
Makes sense to me.. I will be voting Democrat from now on

Check these two Greyhound Derby Finals. I like watching the dogs racing better than a horse race myself. Great entertainment. Yeah. Thank you very much
