I will change the fuel filter.

Getting the gas tank filled before the engine runs is likely more work that I'm up for. And heretofore the engine has freely started even when the fuel light has been on.

Once I get the timing chain renewed and it all bolted back together under cover I'll see what the Snap-On live data scanner has to say.

Lot of green PHM... With that kind of money to burn...I would toss a new distributor cap and rotor on it and see what happens.

If you spend that 9 k it's gonna take a while to make your money back ..it would need to stay pretty busy .
9 k will buy you another van as far as that goes

    PHM...

As soon and the chain and sprocket are in place, before you button it up, look in the hole while you crank it by hand......

For $9K my son would have come down and diagnosed it for you. May have even fixed it for you for that price.

I know Forscan has a program for Ford products which is as good or almost as good as a dealer scanner for a low price or is possibly free. I know some versions are free. It works through the ELM327 modules. I wonder if there is an equivalent for GM

When I was still in the shop, I think they went for at $2k for the basic package, and additional cartridges were additional cost.

    Well . . . . .

I got the old sprockets off and the new ones partially on but was stopped by this oddity:

The original chain tensioner looks like this:

    https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NTP9...+tensioner+arm

Of course; no one has it in stock.

The "timing chain & sprocket kit" that everyone Does stock has a chain tensioner which looks like this in it:

    https://tinyurl.com/y4zze2r2

Even if I try to buy the tensioner as an individual part - it looks like the elaborate one.

And no one seems to know if the elaborate one is some kind of upgrade, universal-fit, or whatever. It comes with some pins for which my block does not seem to have holes. It actually looks to me as though it may interfere with the timing cover.

NAPA says they are getting me one of the original version type.

So I haven't been working on the truck.

I'll see if I can get a picture onto this computer of what I Have been working on.

There are a bunch of little eff-ups but eventually I figured: nobody sees that shet anyway. I started out to build it entirely of pine and stain it 'Gunstock'. So I cut off the bullnose and edge glued several pine treads into that large board for the bottom-step platform. But the available treads proven to such garbage that I switched to manufactured oak treads. Then I thought: I can more easily darken it later than I can lighten it later so I used 'natural' stain instead of 'gunstock'. The lighter stain hid fewer imperfections but eventually I said eff this: my truck doesn't run!

My entire house here was originally paneled in 3/4" T&G 1 by 10's of aromatic cedar. That was what was removed from this area to build these stairs. The cedar had gotten to be about the color of light mahogany over the years.

The primary problem was that the staircase-hole in the ceiling and the staircase-hole in the floor are skewed to each other. So every angle cut Also has to angle diagonally across it's face by a couple degrees. The railing ends and Every baluster is different and required a separate jig setup. Plus all the angles are greater than 45º so a standard miter saw would not cut them. Every riser and every tread was not even a parallelogram - often each of the four corners was a different angle.

So no; I haven't gotten the truck back together yet. <g>
