Actually I halfassed-won - what they demanded was the removal of the entire carport and the 60 yards of steel reinforced concrete I had installed under it. Oh; and both driveways. What they got was a single wall removed. But still; it was still not the garage I had wanted. And I Have tortured them mercilessly ever since then - but I wanted a garage not a fight.

I have bought a number of houses since - but never again any house that didn't already have a garage. <g>

Yes; but that is how things were routinely done in those days. A whole new house or major mechanical changes, or a commercial building: sure - permits. But a roof, a shed, a fence, a porch, nobody cared. The building inspector at the time was a friend of mine and his mother lived across the street. He came to see her 3-4 days a week and usually came over to see how I was doing and to shoot the breeze while I was outside working on the structure.

And everything was fine for a couple years until my neighbor got annoyed because I would politely side-step her sexual advances. Which were quite blatant. Then suddenly she "couldn't see" backing out her driveway - so it was a "safety issue".

The craziest part was that in order to expand the carport I had removed a lilac bush that was so large that it literally blocked the sidewalk and hung out into the street. She had NEVER ever been able to see coming out of her driveway! <g> My work had actually Really Substantially improved her view of the street while leaving. <g>

The mayor then was a long time friend of mine and anything would have sailed though permitting and zoning. But it never occurred to either me or him that it would be required.

Shakespeare had it perfectly right in his judgement of women, didn't he? <g>

Mikey, are you still calling to the van like it was Lazarus?

You and I, with a couple of glasses to sip, and some free time - could probably write a really memorable song. I'll need your help though because I only have the title so far:

    We could.

I have just completed my third month of piano study. All of that time at KXW in Trenton and YSP in Philly whet my appetite for the nuts and bolts of music..so I am finally taking the time to "go there."

I figured I should do if before I really am too old.

I do have a fair number of excuses. My children, my grandchildren, my stupidity, kindness to others, weather, customers, a studs-out new LR to create before Christmas decorations can go up, oh; all kinds of things. I have been vaguely poking at the van - but I have some broken ribs that are making it a little tough to roll around on the concrete. Or to do a lot of other things. <g>

I am 57 and taking guitar lessons. When you quit learning, what is the use in living?

    Your comfort, Your way, Everyday!

GA's basic rules of home heating and AC upgrades:
*Installation is more important than the brand of equipment
*The duct system keeps the house comfortable; the equipment only heats and cools (and dehumidifies)
*Cheap is not good, good is not cheap; however expensive is not a guarantee of quality!
