Approximate cost of compressor replacement

Hi all,
I am a first time poster looking for some help with approximately how much it would cost to do some refrigeration repairs in commercial supermarket refrigeration. I am engineer for a refrigeration OEM and we are trying to make some design decisions regarding replacing parts more often versus making them significantly more resilient to failure (at a steep increase in cost). I was wondering if anyone has an approximate (i understand it is going to be large range based upon specific circumstances) cost for how much it would cost to replace a failed compressor (time + material) on a supermarket compressor rack? I am seeing numbers ranging from $xxxxx. Does that seem right?

Lots of variables. Compressor type and size. Refrigerant type and amount. Recovery time. Accessibility. Evacuation time. Do I need a crane or a rope. 2nd guy/helper. Compressor under warranty. What caused the compressor to go bad.

I don’t even know how you could expect a realistic guess without giving some hypothetical specs.

it's a supermarket compressor Rack. Find a reputable Contractor with a good Rack Mechanic or 2. Pay them what they quote you. Stick with them for years,and pay them on time.because they will only make your refrigeration better.
Example: Old frankenstein rack. Compressor breaks, get compressor replaced in 3/4 day. Come back the next day start trying to figure out what caused it to break..I did say start. Set superheat on a couple Txvs, just happen to find and repair a few refrigerant leaks. Set defrost times,and EPR's. See where this is going.. Yes it gets expensive, your refrigeration equipment starts to work better, and slightly more efficient. before long you find that your service calls decrease. Then it's time to get on a P.M. Program.

Comes down to location, space for work, ease of setup, and weight. Depends whether it's on a roof/crane setup; first floor/second floor; on a lower rack/upper rack; setting back up safeties; wiring. Can make the difference of two guys doing it right in half a day, versus two or three guys taking all day from complications.

I’d think you’d have to check each system for size, refrigerant, etc., then get costs of what you’d want to change, then add it all up. A small system compressor is way less than I large one. So kinda impossible to just try estimate.
