    In an unfinished basement in which he could off had the pipe exit anywhere he wanted............

    Without the manual I'm not sure, but it might be far enough away to go straight out.

    Maybe the lower window is too close.

    He drilled from the inside out and didn't realize it was under a window, but it was straight out form the furnace. Then when he looked at it didn't think it would be good blowing fumes into the window well below. Then he figured since he was extending the pipe just as well keep the hydrant warm.

    another cheap install. some established company lost that job to a price that only made labor!
