When the Season slows - Do any of you work other trades?

Well, it's that time of year again. It was a slow start to this year as the rain hung around until mid May. So, now end of season and wrapped up a little short this year. Do any of you folks branch into other trades? I know of a couple of fellows that do chimney sweep in the Fall. I've never done that but am considering other sources. Whadday all think?

I’m guessing you do residential service? I know a couple people that do home inspections as a side gig. We stay pretty steady if not busy doing commercial.

Sure, why not. Gotta keep food on the table, and keep myself in this lap of luxury Im used to .

Surprisingly, installing wall hung Tvs for people can be very lucrative. One of my go-tos.

Commercial as in refrigeration, or environmental?

    ...also, thanks for the replies.

Refrigeratuion doesn't really have a "slo season". You might want to wonder in that direction.
Can someone please explain to me -
Why is there never enough time to do it right the first time, but plenty of time to do it twice?

That's a cute answer. So, you're saying that HVAC work is not seasonal?

I think it depends if one is a handyman that does some HVAC or they are a HVAC mechanic or company. It always seems like there is too much work to do. If one has consistent down time I would look at year to date earnings and learn to budget and or look to improve in ways to keep busier.

Im not trying to be cute. For example....
I live 30 mins from my shop. Im out my door everyday at 5:45AM. Get there 6:15ish. 2 hours give or take putting estimates together. Out the door some days 8,8:38,10am depending on paperwork. Unless its urgent I run calls with my guys until 5ish. They start at 8am. Im normally home 5:30-6. I could be home earlier but Im not the type of person to tell someone to do something while Im in my recliner with a beer. So for your answer, with me it provides for my family, my employees, and their families year long.

If it dose not for you, might want to look at whats wrong? Or is it an area thing? If it heats or cools in some way we work on it.

    Keeps us busy.

I think you should hop into commercial side of things. Split systems, package units, mini splits, self contained, walk-ins. Those will keep you busy. Venture off into vrf, vav,fpb and what ever you can get your hand on. From the sounds of it looks like you will need to get with a different company.

HVACR slow? Go knock on some doors and pick up some new HVACR customers.

How about racking leaves? How about cleaning out gutters? What do you do when you are in the middle of a "side show side job" and 3 of your regular HVAC customers call for help? Just curious.

Thank you for the response. How are you getting your name out there for commercial?
