    So you consider yourself...

Thought I would start a thread, with a poll, to ask folks where they think they are on the political spectrum...

    *Constitutional Conservative
    *Stick in the mud conservative
    *Semi-conservative
    *Middle of the road
    *Semi-left
    *Strong lefty
    *Flaming lefty
    *Bernie/AOC supporter
*Do not understand what difference it makes who I support
    *Do not care

    Vote only once...
Results of who said what are not public...

Thought... I suspect a few folks think of themselves as something different than what their posting suggests... lets keep the flaming and accusations down until everyone has had a chance to post their thoughts about what they support and why...

Probably be better to start a new thread for accusations and flame wars...

GA grew up in an environment where traditional Constitutional values were taught...
So GA leans towards Constitutional Conservative.

Note that GA was not always that way...
During college years and a few afterwards...
GA was questioning what he learned as a kid...
Embraced some of the hippie culture (left over... as this was the 1970's)...
THEN... as GA matured and learned about adult life...
GA realized WHY conservative, and Constitutional Conservative
Made more sense than the progressive BS!

Yeah GA, I would consider myself a "Constitutional Conservative" with a strong belief in States' Rights and a much smaller Federal Government. A Government restricted to it's Constitutional role of providing a military to protect the US and conduct foreign affairs only for the best interest of America.

Eliminate most of the departments such as Education, Heath and Human Services (Reduce to just the Department of Health), HUD, all Affirmative Action and Diversity reverse discrimination orders, etc.

Just keep the essential departments which we had prior to when socialist FDR became President.

Myself I have always been a conservative and in my earlier years you might even have considered me as right wing and considering where and when I grew up (born 1943 in rural Tennessee) a Southern segregationist as was my family, county and state.

I have also matured and now judge folks as individuals and not by their color. Yeah. Thank you, thank you very much
"I could have ended the war in a month. I could have made North Vietnam look like a mud puddle."

"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution."

Lets take it back to Teddy Roosevelt...

Remember, there was a socialist movement after WW1... lots of what we see today... was tried between WW1 and Black Friday 1929...

Might be interesting to start a thread and discuss the socialist party of the USA back then...
Folks might see some stuff that is conveniently not mentioned anymore...

I consider myself a CHRISTIAN (First) and a Conservative second.
Those who dance, appear insane to those who do not hear the music.
Those who believe, appear ignorant to those who do not know God.

Constitutional Conservative. NOT a partisan, BTW.

Almost every problem we face in this country can be traced to straying outside of the Constitution.

I really donít know which box to check.

Donít want anything from the government. Donít care about homos, or abortion untill 20 weeks. Would like to see K-12 remain government funded, higher education no longer publicly funded. (After we remove universities from the government teet, they can pay the football coach whatever the want, but itís pure bs what they now make). Would like to see SS continue, welfare reduced dramatically. Automatic weapons no longer legal to fabricate. Tax breaks for charitable contributions removed. Tax breaks for mortgage interest removed. Really any tax break removed.

I think Iím a liberal...but not wanting anything and wanting to scrap funding for universityís leaves me wondering.

GA read Scoobie's post quoted above...

    That sounds more like

    Libertarian

Which GA should have put in the poll...
    Sorry I missed that one...
Feel free to describe oneself as a Libertarian!

IMO... this is the simple truth...

If we would stick to the founding documents...
    Interpreted as the writers intended...
    Rather than playing games...

We would avoid most of the problems we have today.

I wonder sometimes why folks are too smart to understand this simple reality???

Let’s say mr Jones and mr smith both make 100k per year. Mr Jones donates 10k to the Catholic Church and has a 2000 a month mortgage. Also takes a cruise to Rome every few years. Mr Smith worships at home but does send Jim Baker 25 a month. Mr smith bought a fixer up for 50k without borrrowing money, since he took no cruises... and worked every Sunday fixing it up.

Now why should mr smith pay more taxes?

Because he doesn't pay interest? It's not that he pays more taxes, it's that Jones has more deductions. Smart money finds tax shelters.

Why is this okay or good government?

Why not make eating at Mexican restaurants a deduction? Hell, if enchiladas/margaritas were a deduction, I’d already be retired.
