New Variable speed blower motor mandates.
I’ve heard rumor that all gas furnaces will be going to variable speed. Is this true?

As of July 3, 2019. All manufactured must have ECM blowers. DOE published a final rule (79 FR 38129)

I wonder if all the bottom feeders will raise the price of motors 1000% to reflect the New Mandate.
Similar to the refrigerant scam????

If you were a real tech, you'd solder a relay on that board and call it good to go.
I do a triple evac with nitro to remove non condensables.
I use 56% silver on everything except steel.
Did you really need the " If you were a real tech " ??

They have been out around 30 years and haven't drop in price yet so why will this make them drop.

They have barely been in use during those 30 years.
The more units that use them, the more will be produced.
Like a run of 100,000 compared to a run of 10,000. Mass production reduces the price.

My supplier has about 30 non ecm's left in stock. After that there's about a 3 Benjamin increase.

I can only think of 1 heat pump that I have sold in the last 23 years that didn't have a VS motor with it. Even most of the furnaces I install have them. So what, I have to wait for the slackers to step up? I have put in so many, for so long that I am changing out equipment that was sold with them and I am hanging on to some mods, controllers and motors just for spares to get someone by if they have one go down over the weekend.

Interestingly, I just installed a Coleman modular furnace, DGAX model w ECM, that replaces their DGAA model w PSC motor.
Cost difference is well below a Franklin. But w conventional equipment, I see the same increase.

The refrigerant scam was mfrs getting greedy. They saw a way to gouge us but it backfired. Price of 22 went through the roof, all these "alternatives" came along and 22 sales tanked. Now, 22 seems to be where it was 6-7 years ago.
A-S/Trane 80 is notably higher $$ than old one. Also new one, which is all new, not just old furnace with ECM, is noisy. We haven't installed one as our other brand supplier bought up on PSC 80s. We've been warned not to put the S8 inside the house near a living area. Wow, a lot of ours are in laundry rooms and hall closets.
We just got some juicy Rheem prices. S8X1 80% is around a Franklin HIGHER than Rheem 95% single stage PSC.
