    "Your furnace is garbage"

Hi all, lurked here for a long time and I finally have a pic/story worth sharing. I installed a furnace for a "friend" in the winter of 2017, a/c was about 10 years old....they didnt want to replace. Fast forward to last week, I get a service call stating "A/C tech was just here, says this piece of shit furnace you sold me isnt working!" I head over expecting a blower issue to be the reason they have no a/c and this is what i find....

That is a new R-410A unit slapped in with the old R-22 lineset, filter drier and coil! Apparently my price was too high. Unit was totally empty, and the blower was working fine. Needless to say I walked away from that nonsense.

    Nice 'friend', right?
If I do a job in 30 minutes it's because I spent 30 years learning how to do that in 30 minutes. You owe me for the years, not the minutes.

Looks as though the service valves are closed (front seated). If that's the case the lines are probably empty.

They were closed at the time of the pic, I was prepping to pressure test the lineset when i came to my senses and walked away.

That unit will run fine after the refrigerant stops getting dizzy.

I think we all need to up our install criteria and add a filter loop in the liquid line. That is such a nice feature even though I have no idea what it does or how it improves the system.

It creates a vortex which makes the refrigerant flow better thru the coils.

AAhhhh, the ol turbulence makes for better heat transfer thing. I think we have our new marching orders. I may start working on a tool to make the loop uniform, patent it and make my millions.

Found this Mutt the other day. Had so much leak sealer in it. I almost puked. And my gauges still stunk this morning. Poor lady just bought the place and wanted a "check up".

That's one of the"Finest Hack Jobs" that I've seen this year.

Did You Warn here about the Flue Pipe not being properly connected to the "B-Vent"?

that is not b vent its a roof jack that the proper furnace for a manufactured home would use with a traditional furnace hacked in to it

    Nope,...

That is B-vent, ..... Unless someone "Hacked" something together to look like a "Roof Jack", ... which it is not, a "Roof Jack".

For that matter, .... If this installation is in a Mobile home/Double Wide, then even the DHW doesn't have the proper Flue piping.
