Now I'm thinkin' it's the gooroo.

He started off well. Then has slowly but steadily degenerated into who he really is.

I give him credit for developing a 'new' personality, but he couldn't maintain it.

If you were a real tech, you'd solder a relay on that board and call it good to go.

I do a triple evac with nitro to remove non condensables.

I use 56% silver on everything except steel.

Did you really need the " If you were a real tech " ??

If I remember (did not search it)...

Tomorrow (July 20) is the day that Neil Armstrong set foot on the Moon...

IMO this is the day we should be celebrating...

    Political thought...
Why is it we are no longer doing brave new things???
Could it be, we have lost our sense of wonder???
Are we too lazy to set a goal that seems larger than life... and meet it???
Or perhaps we are too selfish to care about anything beyond ourselves???

    Thoughts???

I think it all boils down to money and liability these days. Lawyers have ruined pretty much everything. With great risk comes responsibility, and when something goes wrong, the lawyers want to know who is responsible.

    Shhhh . . . Don't tell Gus. I don't think he believes in history.

Can't blame him in one sense, after all, he probably has grown up in the age of fake media.

Or maybe, like with the Civil War Monument protestors, he just wants to erase it.

    Possibly.

I'm more inclined to believe that he listens and obeys the voices in his head.

Somewhere in my adolescence I was told we all have voices in our head. And the only difference between the sane and insane, was that the sane understood what to listen to and act upon, and what to ignore.

At the time, that ended up being a somewhat revolutionary thought. But it was a new thought. Since then, I've had millions or giga-million billions of thoughts that I dismissed because I was sane. I still smile when I dismiss a thought that I know I should never act on or speak of.

I suspect that Gus' problem is no foundation in reality. If he truly doesn't believe that we beat the Russians to the Moon, then maybe he's been watching too many YouTube conspiracy clips.

IMO BB... you may well be onto something here...

Seems folks with a foundation (usually comes from parents that pro-actively teach their kids right from wrong)... grow up to have old fashioned common sense.

Now what does that old fashioned common sense have to do with anything...

It gives a person a yardstick to use...
To sort out which of those voices to listen to...
    And which ones to ignore!

wasn't that Trump, who recently proposed a race to the Sun during a meeting with Putin?

Putin: "we sent the first satellite into space!"
Trump: "but Americans landed first on the Moon!"
Putin: "our probe was the first on the Venus"
Trump: "but we will be the first who lands on the Sun!"
Putin: "wtf....it is far too hot to land there!"
Trump: "we will land at night!"

The only reason we went to the Moon in the first place was to beat the Russians. They had launched the first satellite.
They flew the first astronaut. It seemed like they were years ahead of us, but they weren't. Back when NASA was
known as NACA, Eisenhower had a secret rocket program in the works, but NACA wasn't planning to go to the Moon
anytime soon. But that's another story.

NASA's budget was about 0.5% of GDP before the Moon program. During Apollo, it was 5.0%. The number
of people employed by NASA and its contractors peaked at around 400,000. But NASA's budget began to
    shrink after Apollo 11.

Before Apollo, there were many flights by astronauts in the Mercury program and the Gemini program.
Those flights were on TV all the time. There were so many Gemini flights, it seemed like Gemini would
go on forever. Practice, practice, practice. It got pretty boring at times, but we always watched it.
So when Apollo finally got wings, we were thrilled.

Once we beat the Russians to the Moon, people began to lose interest. When Apollo 13 launched, most
of the trip wasn't even broadcast on TV.

Unfortunately, we also had LBJ's war on poverty and Viet Nam war to pay for. They put us deep in debt.
As a result, Nixon took us off the gold standard so we could print more money, and NASA cancelled
Apollo 18, 19, and 20. NASA's budget shot right back down to 0.5% of GDP.

Last I heard, NASA's budget was down to about 0.4% of GDP.
