Is this my TXV and was it replaced a year ago
I've had a HVAC company out several times because my AC isn't working adequately. About 1-2 years ago they stated the TXV needed to be replaced and replaced it. Since then, they've been out several times and after a little screwing around it starts to work beautifully. When the technician was supposedly replacing the TXV, he dripped water all inside my furnace, ruining my inducer fan and control board, which I had to replace myself. I wonder if he didn't just give up as he was having difficulty and cussing left and right. As the summer progresses, it stops working adequately and i have to call them again and again and again. It IS NOT losing freon or undercharged. My question is this: Are the attached pictures my TXV and was this really replaced? It looks old as hell. Thank you.

That's your TXV.
Was it replaced? There's no way of telling consider finding a reputable HVAC recommendation from one of you're buddys.

Moved to AOP.
By the burn marks, and the sloppy brazing, it looks like it was replaced.

Why would it be in such poor condition? Could they have replaced it with a used part?

The appearance also depends upon the conditions it's been exposed to during the past year.

The copper line was replaced at the same time the TXV >supposedly< was. That would explain the burn marks.

The valve should have been disassembled while brazing. It looks like the hack didn't do that. He probably cooked it to the point that it's sticking which would explain why your cooling functions intermittently.

Looks like either its been in a salt water environment or the power head got so hot it cooked the paint right off!

I just replaced a valve from 2002 that didnt look that bad!
