    Trane RTHC level sensor

Hi all- very new to the chiller world. Go easy on me. I am just looking for some advice on replacing the level sensor in the evaporator. First time on site today, the piping is leaking and is rotted out pretty bad. Thanks for the help

We are removing it and adding 740lb of fresh refrigerant. Do I need to change the oil (48) in the machine? If so, is there a manual with steps on the procedure for doing this? Thanks for the reply’s

I’m not sure. According to the building operator the machine leaked out most of its charge. So we quoted fresh gas with the repair. I went there for a short time he showed me where the leak was and that was all. The repair is on me and I’m just trying to make sure I don’t do anything to damage the machine.

If you need to ask questions like this I would say you are in way over your head .

Thanks for the reply. Good info I read a lot of that manual last night. Can’t find much on the RTHC.

Think it would be best if you install isolation valves on both sides of the liquid level sensor to prevent refrigerant being removed again if future works is required on the liquid level sensor.

I would also inspect the oil return system lines as no doubt they are bundy steel also therefore these should be replaced.

Oh and another recommendation would be to carry out the oil return enhancement as well

Thanks for the reply. Didn’t put ball valves on. Would of been a good idea. Job is complete and the chiller is running good with no issues. York YK repair next 🛠
