Leak probs with Carrier CNPVP coils?

Hey all. First no cooling of '19 coming in today. I was at a house today (first time I have done his a/c) and it was out on LP switch. ZERO freon. I asked him several times how it's been working, aded freon, etc. All was fine he claims. For now I just shut the service valves and added a bit of R410 juice to the coil and line set. He has to clear a path to evap coil over weekend.

Has there been any history of early coil leaking failures with these things? He claims it may still even be in parts warranty. I searched and saw one of the guys on this forum in another thread saying they have had numerous leak issues with this coil. Unit needs almost 15 lbs of freon!

I can get serial from him if it's needed to supply any answers from you folks.

We have had a few. All have been where the u bends are attached. Factor didn't get them epoxied/soldered all away around the joint.

So it took some time before the leak appeared?
Not sure if copper or aluminum,I’ll see when he gets access for me to panel side.

Yes. Couple years I believe. None leaked the first season. All were under warranty. They were all flat I believe. Pretty major leaks. Haven't had one for awhile though.

I’ve probably done 25-30 of them over the past 5 years. All aluminum. Never had a leak.

    Found it.

I could hear the nitrogen hissing out as fast as it went in! Someplace under the bottom of that V. Coil in warranty so I could not take it apart ti actually see the huge hole that must have been in there. I'm very curios about what that white calcium looking stuff is on the coil. It is not from a humidifier. I don't know if it's from freon leaks or what. I can't recall ever seeing this on a coil before.

Funny you say that. I found two of those leaking on Tuesday. In the same house. One installed in 2016 and one in 2017. Customer was not happy. But on the whole I don’t think we’ve had too many of this style coil leak. Time will tell I suppose.

No idea about the stuff on the coil but cool pictures.
(Not sure if I'm supposed to be able to see them though)

Yep. I still have people with coils that are well over 30 years. Once in awhile some company would have some issues for a short time. Now it's like there is no coil you can turn to. Just like this freaking Carrier coil. I know darn well they are getting more back than the counter guy claims but he sure didn't seem at all shocked when I dragged this thing in for a replacement. What did I get? Same exact coil with probably the same issue waiting to happen.

    I just dont get it.

The warranty period is what , 10 years ?

They must figure in about 2 or 3 coils into the price before hand

Can you elaborate a bit? Where did you find the leaks? Did any have that white mineral like deposit on the coil and in the pan?

They may have figured it, but overshot that to hell long ago. Industry issue, Goodman,Rheem, Lennox, etc.
There was a time when I thought all coils would fail in the 10 yr warranty.
