    HSI lifespan

My silicon nitride HSI works but I notice it has a bit of white residue on it. Its 7 years old.

Should working igniters be replaced as preventative maintenance?

Nor sure about the nitrides, but the carbide ones were akin to an incandescent lamp. Some seemed to last near forever and others would blink once and go out. Took the stance of not touching them unless they had obvious visual defects or did not amp out within specs...

I watched a Honeywell rep hammer one of the nitride lighters into a block of wood, pull it out and then proceed to light it up. Impressive...

If you’re concerned about it get a spare one.
