    Gas valve rerplacement

Need to replace an existing millivolt gas valve for a customer. They want the same type of valve with the knob so they can adjust the flames. What would be a good replacement valve for this?

    Thanks a lot

I would ask the manufacturer of the fireplace if they have or recommend something, I would not change it to something different without their approval. Liability is too high

    Good luck

I haven’t found that replacing a gas control valve on a fireplace is cost effective for the customer.

The price of the valve alone is often about half the price of a new unit.

After I add in my service call to diagnose the bad valve, time for finding and ordering the part, converting to LP (if required), removing and installing the new valve, and testing the equipment, it is cheaper for the customer to get a whole new unit.

Thanks. Sorry Just to clarify; old valve was able to adjust the flame height so I’m not trying to change anything. Customer just wants the same type of valve. Fireplace is probably over 40 years old without any numbers on it or the valve.

Thanks for the advice. What gas valve are you thinking of that is so expensive?

DESA parts are common in the brands around here.

    Navy,

Have You contacted the Manufacturer of the Fireplace?

Well, .... I reckon that's what happens when one replies to the first post, & then reads the other replies.

If this unit is truly 40 years old, ..... Then it needs to be thoroughly checked from one end to the other/ Inside out.

I've always been able to get some form of Data, on a unit, whereas I could identify it, & chase down parts/ tech support etc.

"If" Tags/ Data plates have been removed, that is a Red Flag right there about some form of problem, be it the Equipment &/or the forgetful (Bungling) "Servicer" that didn't have a pencil & notepad handy.

Worse yet, .... If the Data plate/ decals are wore off due to Moisture/ High heat/ Abuse, ..... Then sell the H.O. a New Unit, with Warranty, that should be far more efficient than a "40 year old" unit.

At 40 years of age, there’s a good chance the part and fireplace are obsolete.
