Shoulder season is here and I have some valves to replace and prep for plumbers to come replace a water heater just starting to leak.
The inside main does not shut off all the way. The ground has shifted around the curb shut off chase making it inaccessible. The water heater shut off is old and untrustworthy. I always got around it previously with compression valves (now have shark bites available), but I'm getting nervous not having access to that curb shut off.
How deep are they usually? If faced with the task of digging it up and realigning the chase; would you just grab a shovel and carefully go? How much time would you think? The water company assumes no responsibility for the issue - it's on me to repair.
