    TXV for R407C

    Should we be up sizing replacement TXVs for R22 systems that will be converted to R407C? I have a 10 ton Trane Split system that needs a new TXV, and was wondering if I should go bigger to get around the capacity loss?

    Don’t think it works that way, because that doesn’t change the evap or condenser size
    Honeywell you can buy better but you cant pay more

    I thought R407C needed more flow then 22?

    According to a United book, multiply by 1.07.

    10x1.07=10.7 ton valve for R407C

    That is the nominal tonnage rating. More calculations needed to figure out actual required tonnage.

    Actually Sporlan TXVs are 10% oversize, so I guess not a problem.

    I’ve never heard that 407 requires more flow.

    Are you talking about cubic feet per minute of refrigerant flow through the compressor / system?

    Of course the specific gravity is different than 22, so you would install less Than the original factory charge on a retrofit.

    You should be fine with the same valve. The capacity difference is negligible.

    you have to see how much capacity unit will loos by changing the to R407 the use a txv for that size, TVX usually can work on 70% of rate capacity with no problem, but try be as closer as posiblem in my experiance with Trane TXV, they normally have bigger capacity than a universal TXV from Danfost, You can used a 12 ton TXV that can go down up to 8.5 tons.
