Solar Minimum Is Just Around the Bend

Sunspot update December 2018: Decline to solar minimum continues
    January 7, 2019
    Robert Zimmerman
    .
Time for the monthly solar cycle update! NOAA today posted its monthly update of the solar cycle, covering sunspot activity for December 2018. As I do every month, I am posting it below, annotated to give it some context.

The graph above has been modified to show the predictions of the solar science community. The green curves show the community’s two original predictions from April 2007, with half the scientists predicting a very strong maximum and half predicting a weak one. The red curve is their revised May 2009 prediction.

There really isn’t much to say about the sunspot activity in December. It continued to show a steady decline to solar minimum, exhibiting activity very comparable to what we saw in mid-2008 when the previous unusually long and extended solar minimum began.

One interested detail however: When NOAA issued this graph last month, it finally extended it out beyond the end of 2019 to the end of 2022. In doing so, it also extended out the 2009 prediction of the solar science community, as indicated by the red curve. I hadn’t commented on this last month, but if you look at that curve it drops to zero and then flatlines for the entire year of 2022.

If this is what the solar science community now expects for this upcoming minimum, it means that community is now expecting a record-breaking minimum, lasting far longer than any previous minimum, two to three years at least. It also means that they have not dismissed the possibility that the Sun is about to enter a Grand Minimum, where no significant sunspot activity is seen for literally decades.

Should such a grand minimum occur, it bodes ill for global warming advocates. The track record of the Earth’s climate consistently shows that when sunspot activity declines, the global climate gets colder. Why this happens is not clearly understood, though there is at least one theory backed up by good experimental data. Should this happen, we shall discover that global cooling is a far worse thing to fear than global warming.

    Solar minimum

Solar minimum is the period of least solar activity in the 11 year solar cycle of the Sun. During this time, sunspot and solar flare activity diminishes, and often does not occur for days at a time. The date of the minimum is described by a smoothed average over 12 months of sunspot activity, so identifying the date of the solar minimum usually can only happen 6 months after the minimum takes place. Solar minima are generally correlated with changes in climate and recent studies have shown a correlation with regional weather patterns.

Back in the 1970's, when monthly magazines like Look, Life, Time, and Newsweek were a very important part of print media, and they employed some of the best photographers, feature writers and reporters in the business, one vary famous cover story asked if we were about to enter "a new Ice Age?"

Looks like we had better start increasing our carbon emissions now!

We also might want to keep on using 410a.....

We just need to put concrete over as much land as possible. It’ll absorb less heat and combat global warming and then when global cooling starts to become an issue we can just paint it all black to absorb more heat. 😁 (totally joking. Not seriously suggesting this as a solution)

Not enough human recorded data to be so absolute about anything climate related. We are very insignificant in the grand scheme of things. On this planet and in the universe.

It was an interesting video if you have a hour to burn...

In the times the sun spots are around the sun is actually a bit hotter it appears. Thats interesting. Apparently the sun spots are due to a magnetic force that pushes away the plasma. The spots are not actually black as depicted but much less bright.

Much the opposite of a solar flair, an arch of flowing plasma when twisted makes a figure 8. When the intersecting lines touch it shorts out and explodes.

I cant say I honestly know much about it and how could I? But i did watch a video several times that made fair since to me (kind of an alternate theorist) that stated the sun was not a nuclear fission reaction at all but rather an absorber of power from the universe. An attractant if you will of power....

One of his arguments were, if the sun was a nuclear fusion devise the center of the sun would be hotter(stated) and thus brighter at the “sun spots”.

Not saying he is right or wrong but ide bet dollars to self tappers that our fundamental understanding ls of physics has it wrong at some very basic level and if we are so fortunate to discover what that might be we would look back at some point as we did with the flat earth or countless other flaws in our “observational sciences”.

Yeah, Ham radio on the low bands is not good.
Between the high noise level at my QTH and the crappy signals, might as well give up till a few more years.

By over a margin of 6-1 scientific papers and citations from that era were for global warming and not cooling. Predictors of global cooling were very likely to be geologists also.

Those magazines were photo driven and about to fail and I always thought that pics of icebergs were more appealing to the eye than a desert.

Expect the solar minimum to flatline in 2022 at zero; longest on record. We may be moving into a Grand Minimum (Maunder Minimum), which last corresponded to the Little Ice Age.

The absolute uncertainty of climate science
    .
Even as the United States is being plunged right now into an epic cold spell (something that has been happening repeatedly for almost all the winters of the past decade), and politicians continue to rant about the coming doom due to global warming, none of the data allows anyone the right to make any claims about the future global climate, in any direction.

Why do I feel so certain I can make this claim of uncertainty? Because the data simply isn’t there. And where we do have it, it has been tampered with so badly it is no longer very trustworthy. This very well documented post by Tony Heller proves this reality, quite thoroughly.

First, until the late 20th century, we simply do not have good reliable climate data for the southern hemisphere. Any statement by anyone claiming to know with certainty what the global temperature was prior to 1978 (when the first Nimbus climate satellite was launched) should be treated with some skepticism. Take a look at all the graphs Heller posts, all from reputable science sources, all confirming....

The Sun has been in a cooling trend with low solar activity while our planet is warming. This is just simply more evidence of the greenhouse effect warming our planet.

Many fail to acknowledge that the Polar Ice Caps have not always existed.

National Geographic, & many more Institutions have presented data showing Fossils that have been found, as the Ice has receded, that show that at one time, Tropical Forests existed at the Poles.

Perhaps Fred Flintstone while being Industrious, emitted some Industrial Gas, that caused the heat of the Sun, to stop, which in turn caused the "Ice Age"?
