    Fan Powered Box Fan Motors

Are fan powered VAV box fan motors trending to ECM? Studies have shown the ECM motors save energy but is it enough in real applications to convince commercial building owners to have them installed. What impact on the building electrical system has been experienced with ECM motors and how is that being addressed?

If you can get a % of the actual savings over a year as compensation then Yes there worth it.

If there's any issues with static pressure then they die long before the building owners recovers there return on investment!

Before retiring I only balanced one building that had ECM motors in the FPB'S. The harmonic distortion was so bad the motors in the parallel boxes wouldn't start without resetting the power. I have read that electrical system chokes can be installed that are inexpensive that will stop this problem. If so it would seem to me the ECM motors would be catching on by now. From the lack of response here that doesn't seem likely.
