Better off letting it lay on the floor and put some plastic down.
The plastic will keep moisture off it, and make clean up easier when a real professional goes down there and vomits.

ITs not approved to use PVC in my area for that and its supposed to just go down the side of the water heater and termanante 6 inches from the floor.
And the nice bicks holding it up job would not pass this is low budget work for sure not what you would do

It's removeable so when the hacked in water heater needs to be replaced you just disconnect the flex duct change the water heater and MABY do it right this time then reconnect the flex duct
