    Equal Area Duct Traverse

    Pitot Tube Layout.pdf
    Hi adamf79,
I have attached a chart for the pitot traverse layout.
Get the NEBB publication that Wayne recommended.
And as Wayne said, Good luck finding a straight enough piece of duct.

    Great pdf! Thank you

I assume that this chart and method will work with Hot-Wire Anemomete as well.

When it comes to measuring out the holes may want to get a Flexible Magnetic Tape Rule 24"L x 3/4"w.

I picked one up at trutechtools.com for $14. Part #19785A32

As others have said "good luck finding long enough runs in resi" I've only used for that a few times but it gets alot of use for other sheetmtal projects.

Jim Bergman has some videos on youtube that may help with your duct traversing. That's where I learned about the mag tape.

    Thought it may help.

Hot wire and direct velocity pressure readings are taken in the same places.

Here's some good information for you at this link. If you haven't already seen this page.

Good luck, just remember it takes a lot of practice taking the measurements for repeatability. To beat a dead horse, most of the residential ducts are too turbulent because of the short lengths, to get good laminar repeatability. Remember, Henri Pitot was measuring a 483 mile river, not a residential duct.
