Simple (I hope) Design / Code Question

    Hello,
My question is can a return duct and pex plumbing line be run within the same framing bay? Is this allowed by code ? I'm in NJ if that helps.

I can explain the situation in greater detail if need.

    Many thanks in advance!

I should have clarified - can pex and a return duct occupy the same bay in an interior first floor wall with the plumbing and ducting starting in the basement and terminating on the second floor?

Lest anyone think I'm doing this myself....GC and his HVAC guy removed the only return in a large 2nd floor bedroom during a renovation - wall below it got opened up. I've suggested to the GC they need to put it back and have been told there's no room - all the bays are full with either other ducts or plumbing. I just don't think my GC wants to be bothered fixing this now that the project is pretty much done. If it's not against code, I want to be able to say 'run it in the same bay as the plumbing'....

    Thanks
