There are new Orings in the unit ..
Soon as you remove the plastic dust covers you can see them.
The O-Ring is the seal. A little oil MUST be applied to the O-Ring when tightening.

Another reason to cut them out and replace!

I believe Hoshi's pre-charged connectors are Aeroquip Series 5780, which use the O-rings for sealing during connecting, but the final seal is metal to metal.

Finally some luck , my buddy was working across the street ! Borrowed his unit and got her emptied.

Ok so im a big dummy. I shoved a ice pick into the metal cover and saw the piercing blades are behind it !!!!!

    SOB

So the lineset doesnt do the piercing... It merely shoves against that metal cover and the blades poke thru .. and the blades end up going inside the lineset !

    Whoooda thunk

Got it vacuumed , charged , and it just dropped a load of ice

Soaped the fittings real good and no bubbles

Since they're really only there to assist in the initial piping job as shellkamp mentioned, they're of no functional value except as a coupling anyway, so just replace them with a sweat coupling.

I remember my father back in the 1960's when precharged linesets first showed up on split A/C units saying "Those quick-connectors are going to allow tin-knockers and plumbers to do air-conditioning work Lucky Patcher 9Apps VidMate ." Now everybody uses them simply to save time and money...and nobody cares that the piping job looks like a rats nest
    .
very good when you remember your father since 1960

Might sell parts for stuff there, too.
