New Construction 2
This one has been a slow process but finally got the metal wrapped up this weekend. Im happy with the results cant wait to fire it up and check static. All metal ductwork, returns are wall stack to round back to trunk line with balancing dampers. More pictures to come when I finish, will be a while with how things are going.

Looks good! I'm curious to hear about the supply take off/immediate increase design and performance. I always build transitional take offs with 2" rise and respectively sized collars at the plenum. I like the inside radius design for the t/o's.

Nice work i would seal around the joint between the return and the return comes from above so you are not drawing air in from the basement and putting it back in the home aka fumes etc other than that top notch work

Are you referring to the takeoffs going from a 16 plenum to 24 ductwork? Not sure what you mean when you say 2 rise?

ok i thought so but did not know i would have made my bends inside the opening so it seals from the inside out or is that to hard to do in your install?

The start collar of the t/o is 2" lower than the top of the ductwork. I'm guessing this design is relying on higher velocity leaving the plenum then the velocity would reduce in the transition from (i'm guessing) 14 or 15x8 to 24x8?

Yeah Im not that advanced lol. I just make fittings how I feel air will move with the least resistance. I keep them straight off the top just so its easier to make the fitting. I try to hit .5 tesp. I will go thru and balance with flow hood once the home is finished and move in ready.

Frankly I think its a bang up bad ass job sir. You should be proud of that metal work. Not many people have the knowledge let alone will for that kind of craftsmanship anymore.

Very nice looking job. I am like Taylor and wondered about the increase right after the take off. If I have duct wider than the plenum I build a transitional take off that starts out as wide as the plenum and really deep, that shrinks in depth as it widens to match the duct. By the looks of your duct system and fittings I think your way will do great.

Beautiful workmanship. You should sleep soundly at night. I hope the builder and homeowner realize how lucky they are.
We also elevate the furnace so the large air filter surface is utilized (particularly on the right side of the blower with all of the wires in the way.)
The only additional things we do is install flex connectors to isolate the furnace from the ductwork.

I Dont use them unless the client says to as they tend to rot in time and cause leaks

Beautiful job, I like the spacer between the furnace and A/C coil. Also like the return box on the bottom and the radius throat elbow is over the top! Nice work

You're right about the old canvas connections rotting, the vinyl material we use now will last forever. Don't worry about it. No one uses them hear anymore.
And no one here, save us, does ductwork like you.

Good eyes! I didn't notice the spacer. That's a really nice touch. The radius is also a great idea for the air clean particularly. We use turning vanes.

You might be right but even vinal cracks of not taken care of over heated etc but if the client asks for them i put them in if not i dont

I use Durodyne junior, have for 40 years. Never had it degrade. I usually can reuse it in replacement systems. The only time I have ever had to toss one is from size change
