    Ruud Furnace Ignition Issue

working on a ruud silhouette ii model number UGPH-07EAMGR furnace with an ignition issue. unit cycles properly, blower, pressure switch closes, gas valve opens but no spark for the ignitor. checked post on board for the ignitor with a wire to ground and got a single spark out of it during the ignition cycle. assumed it was the ignitor and replaced it, no luck. could the lack of a pulsating spark from the board be the result of a bad ground? also, the unit had had a freeze up issue due to dirty filter, created a lot of condensation which may have dripped down into the unit. Thoughts?

Is it a spark or hsi ignition?

Stay away from the ICM aftermarket board. Go OEM.

If you had a wire to case ground and held other end to the spark terminal, and no sparky, then the board is the issue.

The spark will overcome a lousy ground and some bad connections. The spark needs to jump an air gap and will.

    Thanks for the reply.

There is a single spark only. It doesn’t repeat or continue to spark say for 5 seconds or so. It doesn’t light with the single spark. I can light it during that cycle with a lighter and everything fires up, so I know the other interlocks are working. Sounds like the board is bad or going bad, correct?

    Yes OEM for sure.

What have you learned about it by testing with a meter?

You have not given us anything in the way of a measurement. A real tech would give us some.
