    Shunt is when a winding shorts to itself or another winding, but at a point that has enough resistance to prevent the motor from tripping the breaker.

    Similar to, but not the same as 2 of the speed taps being energized at the same time.

    What would be the symptoms of that? Is the only way to see it with a megohmeter? Or would I be able to see it ohming windings

    Megger won't show it. Ohming might, if you have an identical motor to reference it to.

    Motor spinning at a slower speed then it should, and over heating. But turns freely when de energized.
