    Isn't C0 heavier than air, below 32f Jim? Thinking of that rtu spilling over a wall into a fan intake during cold calm weather.

    So if the gas company comes into a home and turns off a piece of equipment because they say its producing CO. I need to have a combustion analyzer to see if this is true?

    Unless the gas company is testing in the flue, they may have no idea as to what gas burning appliance is causing the CO to be elevated within the occupied space of the home. Most all will assume it is the furnace.

    Therefore, it is up to the tech to test (combustion analysis) each piece of equipment to see which one is really causing the high levels of CO.

    The return duct of the furnace may be pulling in the flue gases of a back drafting water heater.

    Most importantly, a combustion analysis will tell you how to correct the problem.
    Instead of learning the tricks of the trade, learn the trade.

    Yes icy, CO is heavier than air below 32 degrees. Therefore if you install your CO Alarm outdoors it should be low.

    Gotta remember air is 20.9% Oxygen and 79% Nitrogen (molecular weight of 28) so CO is 97% the density of air.
