If the box ever gets down neat temp it might work. Remember the OP said low SH at the outlet that tells me overfeeding!

True, if maintaining at near temperature. The correct size valve would be slightly open. That valve would be wide open. I can't see the box being able to pull down unless it's outside in a cold ambient. Or the door is locked and no one ever goes in.

I wouldn't go that far. He knows the rules enough to know how to break them for himself. Unfortunately I know how guys that get caviler about these things.

He is probably a wealth of knowledge in many ways.

I've known him for 18 years or so.. he definitely is a wealth of knowledge, and is the fellow that taught me the basics of rotary engines way back when.. He just retired last year at 72, has a shop FULL of stuff

Had a little problem with the thermostat today, temp was -2C (28F).. tapped the thermostat and it kicked out.. put some oil on the mechanism and worked it a little, going to keep a close eye on it now

While I'm here, Where is a good place (in Canada if possible) to get rebuild kits for the Copeland semi-hermetic compressors?.. I bojanged this one so it would work, but at some point in the future it'll need a proper rebuild.. As you can see the compressor has had some hours on it, and it wasn't running too well with that valve. To get me by I made a pair of new ones out of feeler gauges, they're working well now but when I get a chance I'd like to do it right.

You can get valve plate kits from any Copeland distributer.

It's a KAG model.. I've found several distributors but they all want you to log in to get a price on things. grrrr

CMP seems to be good at a glance, at least they have things in stock
What's an estimated price for a rod, wrist pin, complete gaskets and a set of reed valves?

I found a very nice look KAT model in 120V on Ebay for a good price, shame the shipping is a killer

Or just fashion a valve plate out of an old I-beam and use several layers of green construction paper as gasket material.

Could be that it has been rolling around in his van receiving knocks & bumps.
The primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman.

So in the spirit of doing it right next time, I bought this unit, brand new Copeland KAT compressor for $275.. I think I'll be up over that number by the time I do a rebuild and still have an old unit
